Management Team

Marc Newman, Managing Member

Marc is the founding member of Newman Development Group, which he formed with other partners in 1983. Over the past 30 years, Marc has established NDG as a national leader in retail and commercial development with over $1 billion in successful projects comprising over 10 million square feet. In 2004 Marc redirected the firms focus to student housing, multi-family and mixed-use projects, creating new opportunities for development, acquisition and construction. He is actively involved in all aspects of development, including land entitlement, financing, budgeting analysis, leasing and project oversight. Marc has been very active in the community serving on the board of several college, community and civic organizations.

David Newman, NDG Mid-Atlantic

David has led the Mid-Atlantic office since 1998. David and his development team have entitled and developed numerous "big box" anchored retail projects in New Jersey and Pennsylvania valued in excess of $200 million. Prior to joining NDG, David founded, grew and ultimately sold United Structures, Inc. ("USI"), a telecommunications infrastructure provider to the wireless industry. David has a BS from Ithaca College and a JD from Hofstra University.

George Akel, NDG West

For over twelve years, George has led the West Coast development team in dealing with all aspects of acquiring and developing real estate in California, Oregon and Washington State. Throughout his tenure, he has developed seven regional shopping centers, totaling about 2 million square feet and valued at over $150 million. George holds a BS from Cornell University as well as a MBA from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Jeff Akel, NDG West

Jeff has over ten years of corporate and real estate finance experience. Prior to joining NDG, Jeff held various Finance and Business Development positions at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and most recently was Director of International Mergers & Acquisitions where he led and managed the diligence process. Jeff holds a BS from Cornell University as well as a MBA from Columbia University.
